We are delighted to invite you to the Empower Disabled Fund’s first
annual Awards and Thank You party May 17 from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. in
the Alumni Lounge, Room 2552, second floor of the Campus Center, UMass
Boston. Deputy Chancellor Drew O’Brien and Vice Chancellor Darrell
Byers will be handing over the keys of a beautiful new wheelchair van to
Eugene Flaherty and his mother Jan, and thanking the donors to the EDF
who have made this first award possible. EDF donors and volunteers will
be present for this great occasion. Please come to celebrate this fine
moment, meet the 2005-6 award winner, accept our thanks, and learn more
about the Empower Disabled Fund.
We would be so pleased to thank you in person. Eugene and his mother
will be there to talk about how this award has helped Eugene’s
mobility, independence and outlook. EDF remains a small band of dedicated
individuals so the party will be modest and brief, but it should
lift everyone’s spirits.
If you wish to stay involved, we want to give you an early heads-up
about our CAR RAFFLE, SILENT AUCTION and FUNDRAISING PARTY for the
Empower Disabled Fund’s ongoing work and future awards, in
September as part of the opening school student week activities.
The date will be announced soon. We will be selling raffle tickets
at $50 each, for which the winner will receive a brand new Toyota
Corolla generously donated by ROBERT BOCH of EXPRESSWAY MOTORS in
Dorchester. The chairs of the event are: Vice Chancellors Charlie
Titus, Darrell Byers, and Ellen O’Connor; EDF founder Sergio
Goncalves, and staff advisors Ellen Hume and Clare Poirier.
Thank again for your support. Let us know if you can come to our
party. Please RSVP to Ellen Hume, 617 287 6798. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Sergio Goncalves
